From Chunky Knits to Delicate Cashmere Cardigans

This morning, as I write this on November 4th, I’ve finally turned on my central heating for the first time since last winter. I so look forward to these first truly chilly days, knowing I can finally break out my sweaters without overheating. As we bundle up this autumn and winter, we’re reaching for sustainably-made knits from the following brands—these are meant to serve as heirlooms: pieces to be shared, cherished for decades, and passed down to loved ones. We hope you find something you love.

James Street Quinn Vest, $288

James Street is, without a doubt, my all-time favorite knitwear brand. I have two sweaters of theirs from past seasons: one in Matisse blue, and another in butter yellow: they’re the first things I would save in a fire and I’m being completely serious. Every piece of clothing they make has that effortlessly cool and slightly oversized look that’s so perfect for cooler days.

James Street Erin Raglan, $196

This tapered, relaxed-fit sweater features a raglan sleeve construction for a comfortable, easy silhouette. The purl stitch fabric, crafted from 99% BCI organic cotton and 1% spandex, adds subtle visual interest while offering a soft, stretchy feel. The rib-knit collar and cuffs provide a polished, refined finish. Designed to hit just below the natural waist, this versatile style can be layered over shirts and dresses or worn on its own for a casual look.

James Street Sloan Vee, $340

Crafted from 100% RWS extra fine merino wool and ethically knitted in Los Angeles, this cozy sweater features an oversized menswear-inspired fit with a relaxed jersey stitch, V-neckline, and ribbed trims for a refined feel.

Still Here New York Dakota Sweater in Cream, $395

The unisex Dakota Sweater combines striking cable knit and honeycomb patterns in a wool zip-up hoodie, featuring a practical two-way zipper and custom hardware for a refined finish.

Almina Concept V-Neck Cardigan, $298

Crafted in 100% merino wool, this mid-to-heavy weight cardigan features wide sleeves, a deep V-neck, and practical patch pockets with button closure: perfect as a chic layering piece for transitional weather.

DOEN Petra Cardigan, $298

In a soft baby alpaca blend, Doen’s forever-favorite Petra Cardigan features a crew neck, fitted raglan sleeves, and ribbing at the neckline, cuffs, and hem. Mother-of-pearl buttons extend down the front.

DOEN Adley Cardigan, $498

The '90s-inspired Adley Cardigan combines slouchy comfort with refined details, featuring a boxy silhouette in plush Italian Re.Verso™ recycled cashmere and merino blend. Mother-of-pearl buttons and ribbed trim at the collar, cuffs, and hem elevate this sustainably-crafted favorite, which helps reduce environmental impact while supporting a circular economy.

Modern Citizen Eames Organic Cardigan, $168

The Eames Cardigan features architectural sleeves and a flattering silhouette, making it the perfect polished layer over a simple tank and denim for effortless day-to-night style.
