Essentials for a cozy Valentine’s in
As we get older, holidays start to feel a bit less significant and become more of what we make them vs. what society tells us they’re supposed to be like. Valentine’s Day is no exception, and the day (or night) doesn’t have to be a grandeur showcase of your love if you don’t want it to be.
During pandemic days, there’s less pressure than ever to do something extravagant, but at the same time we’ve found that marking the time with holidays gives us something to look forward to as all of the days blend together and feel essentially the same. (!) It’s been cute to plan a day of dedicated activities together since they feel more intentional and even a bit nostalgic.
We hope you enjoy this list of ideas on things to make, do and wear (or gift) for a casual Valentine’s Day at home.
SET THE MOOD | PHLUR CANDLE
Break out your favorite candle for the day. We love Phlur’s natural and non-toxic candles: pictured here is the Howl candle, which consists of a dark and smoky scent featuring notes of saffron, tobacco, and oud wood (in a reusable ceramic vessel.)
WEAR OR GIFT | KENT ORGANIC UNDERWEAR
These soft, organic Pima cotton underwear from Kent’s Valentine’s Edit are made of biodegradable, natural materials.
DRINK | NATURAL WINE
Pick up your favorite bottle(s) of natural wine to sip throughout the dy — if you’re new to natural wine, bottles can usually be found at specialty wine shops, co-ops, local grocery stores and chains like Sprouts or Whole Foods.
Make or order | Dessert
You’ve got your classic Valentine’s treats: cookies, cupcakes, chocolate lava cake, dark chocolate, and themed candy. For a cute evening activity, you and your partner could bake a treat together (this is great especially if you have specific dietary needs— try a vegan or paleo recipe!) or order a dessert to-go: grab a slice of cake or some gelato from a local bakery or ice cream shop.
WATCH | A Classic Movie
Pull up a list of classic 1950’s-1970’s movies you and your partner have never seen before and have an all day movie marathon. You can let them play in the background and tune in as the day goes on.
Activities
Set up a cozy movie watching area, make a meal or flower arrangement together or go for a drive and watch the sunset at a viewpoint in your city. If you don’t want to cook, now’s a lovely time to support some local restaurants by ordering takeout. Alternatively, you could order coffee and pastries in the morning from your favorite coffee shop in the morning and cook dinner together in the evening.
We hope that you enjoyed this post and found a few ideas on what to do for your Valentine’s Day at home.
