In 2019, we really dove in to change our habits and move toward making the smallest carbon footprint possible. We’ve got a lot of work to go, but nothing is wasted and every positive effort is a step in the right direction. It’s important that we’re demanding better from major corporations, and creating lasting change in our own lives by voting with our dollars (where and how we spend our money) is a really impactful way to go about it as well.
Here are our favorite brands with everyday essentials that we’ve begun using instead of conventional alternatives (like those made of single-use plastics or without care for their employees).
LOLA
Reproductive Care, Sexual Wellness. LOLA uses organic materials and natural ingredients in all products and they advocate for others, donate products and offer free education. | Get $5 off here.
Thinx
Sustainable Period Care. Thinx responsibly and sustainably manufactures products, they have give-back initiatives and empower others. Get $10 off here.
Package Free Shop
A one-stop-shop for all sustainable products. If you’re starting out in your sustainable slash low waste journey, this is a great place to start as you can order kits and a bunch of different items at once. Package Free ships everything in recycled cardboard without any frills. We recommend some basic beginning purchases like hair ties, cutlery, bar soap, biodegradable phone case and cleansing oil.
W & P Design
We love W & P for all reusable travel mugs, bowls, straws and glasses. They incorporate such thoughtful design and have a lovely range of products that will make you want to take all of your food to-go.
By Humankind
Single-use plastic packaging for everyday products accounted for 54% of the world’s plastic waste in 2015. Our addiction to plastic-powered convenience is harming our bodies and our planet. By Humankind is on a mission to offer refillable and reusable alternatives to everyday product. We’ve been into their shampoo bar. Their natural deodorant contains only ingredients sourced from plants and minerals found in nature. Some non-natural deodorants contain harmful chemicals such as Aluminum and Parabens. These ingredients have been linked to adverse side effects like irritation, disruption in hormones, aches, and even diseases like Alzheimer’s and cancer.
Ursa Major
This is a fantastic line of clean facial, body care, and hair care for all.
Necessaire
Necessaire offers sustainable, recyclable packaging and natural ingredients meant to balance your skin’s natural PH. They offer a thoughtful range of scents: Eucalyptus, Fragrance-Free, and Sandalwood.
Billie
A truly excellent brand: all products are EWG Certified, much of their range is fully recyclable, and they have a give-back initiative committed to building brighter futures for women everywhere. This is really the best shave we’ve ever used. Join the Pink Tax Rebate here for a discount.
Maude
Natural and sustainable sexual wellness products. Maude offers sets as well as standalone body-safe products.
The Detox Market
A haven for natural skincare. If you’re in New York or LA, be sure to stop by and check out this space. Every brand housed here has effective, natural ingredients and is an excellent place to start off your considered skincare routine.
It’s certainly a constant journey to find natural alternatives (that truly work) and simply start to change the way we think, shop, and consume. We hope you’ll join us in supporting brands committed to making a positive impact on people and the planet.
