A profile on the wood-fire Middle Eastern restaurant in East Hollywood

Saffy’s is currently my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles— it’s a Middle Eastern restaurant rooted in traditional flavors and executed using modern techniques. In this stunning space, you’ll be greeted by warm and energetic hospitality, flavors and dishes reminiscent of Middle-Eastern home-style cooking, and unexpected takes on classic desserts. Dinner service is centered around small plates, various house-made loaves of bread, seasonal vegetables, and meats that hit the table straight off of the fire.

The cherry limeade is always my drink of choice: maybe one day I'll venture out and try something new, but it’s simply the most enjoyable drink that I spend the day leading up to dinner dreaming about.

Their hummus is to die for: you can’t go wrong between the hummus ful and the hummus tahini… or you could just get both.

The grilled lobster skewer with green harissa and serrano-lime yogurt, IMHO, is the cannot-miss-under-any-circumstances-dish. If you were in LA for only an hour and could eat but one thing, I’d tell you to order this. I generally come here with a group, so we’ll order two skewers so we each end up with two little pieces of our own and then literally flip a coin over who gets the final piece. It would definitely be worthwhile to come here either alone or with one other person so you get more of the lobster to yourself :-)

The little gem salad is wonderful: this is my personal favorite leaf in general, and favorite little gem variation in the city.

All of the other skewers are amazing as well, I’d recommend trying as many as you can.

I always attempt to save room for dessert, sometimes more successful than not— their rotating soft serve lives rent-free in my mind. I’m a bit more indifferent to flan, but this one is, of course, delicious.
